Thrivewell

In October of 2022, IWSA joined ThriveWell and worked the coin toss booth to help raise money for the foundation supporting all cancer survivors! We also met some fabulous women in the medical and law industry who also support the cause!

Woodrow Wilson Elementary School

For the Holidays, IWSA collected donations for two Woodrow Wilson families that were in need of some help this season. Our members signed up for the families’ wish list items and we delivered all donations on December 13th. We also received a wish list from the school for 20 other children in need of shoes. These donations were delivered on December 13th as well! IWSA donated two cookie trays and several boxes of candy canes for the school’s Holiday festivities on December 15th.

For the 2021-2022 school year, IWSA has helped Woodrow Wilson Elementary School out in many ways.

We kicked off the school year with a school supply drive. Where we raised approximately $250 dollars in addition to a generous amount of supplies donated by membership.

In the Fall two members of IWSA, Hailey Massey and Lucy Filipowicz volunteered to help with their annual Trunk or Treat. The two members helped pass out goodies to students to celebrate Halloween.

Woodrow Wilson Elementary hosts an annual Talent Show for their students. Liz Glover and Lucy Martinez graciously volunteered their time to be judges of the show.

This year Woodrow Wilson Elementary is putting on a 5th Grade Fun Day to honor the 5th graders who are graduating from elementary school. Mrs. Pat Villareal kindly donated shirts to the entire 5th grade class to wear at the field day. Several of our members will be giving their time to help the day of the event. This will be held May 20th, 2022.

Shields for Kids

Shields for kids is a 501(c)(3) local nonprofit made up of officers from the San Antonio Police Department, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding law enforcement agencies. These officers, along with community volunteers, provide a wide variety of assistance to kids in need that they normally cannot give while on duty. Our organization allows these officers, in their off-duty status, the ability to provide assistance to underprivileged children in the community in which they serve and protect. This includes hand delivering presents during the holidays, teddy bears for children at the children’s shelter, gifts for sick children staying at the Ronald McDonald House or hosting outdoor activities for children with disabilities, all without the worries of the dangers involved with being on duty or on a call.

Shields for Kids was chosen by Insurance Woman of San Antonio as the 2021-2022 community service project. Through our members we were able to raise $1500 to donate to the organization.

The presenter of the check was Hailey Massey of IWSA and the receiver of the check was Rafael Trini Trinidad of Shields for Kids.
